How the tracker is compiled
One source, read in full. Each entry needs a source we have opened: the company’s announcement, an SEC filing, the investor’s post, or first-hand reporting from a major outlet. Aggregator rewrites do not count. Amounts and names are given as the source gives them.
New York, verified. The company’s headquarters has to be in the New York area. A split headquarters or a New York office of an out-of-town company is noted, and New York expansions get their own label.
Filings as well as press releases. We read the SEC’s daily Form D filings, which turn up rounds some companies never announce. An entry known only from a filing says so.
A record, not a feed. Entries are added weekly and never removed. Errors are corrected in place.
Questions about the tracker
What does the tracker cover?
Funding rounds, acquisitions, public-market events, shutdowns, New York expansions and publicly announced leadership moves at AI companies headquartered in the New York area. Every entry links to a source we have opened and read. It is a record of what we could confirm, not a complete ledger of the market.
How do you decide what counts as a New York AI company?
The company has to build AI products or AI infrastructure as its main business, and its headquarters has to be in the New York area. Where headquarters are split between New York and another city, or the sources disagree, the entry says so in its note rather than leaving it out.
Where do the funding amounts come from?
From the source, exactly as it states them: the company announcement, the lead investor, first-hand reporting, or an SEC Form D. A valuation appears only when the source gives one. When a round is known only from a Form D, the entry says so, because a filing reports equity sold, not a priced round with named investors.
Do you report people moves from LinkedIn or job postings?
No. A leadership move is listed only when the company announced it or a major outlet reported it first-hand. We never infer a move from a profile change, and a job posting coming down does not tell you who was hired, so we do not treat it as news.
Do the people behind the tracker have interests in these companies?
They may: the people who host the show and compile the tracker invest in and advise early-stage companies. Entries are checked against the holdings of the people who compile the tracker, and where one of them holds a financial interest in a company named in an entry, that entry carries a disclosure. A holding never decides whether an entry is included.
How do I send a deal or a correction?
Email hello@aiinnycshow.com with a link to the announcement or filing. Tips can be anonymous. We publish only what we can confirm with a source, and we correct errors in place and note the change.
